I am regularly getting asked about weight loss and how Pilates can help you to lose weight and get in shape. I have been doing some research on exercises and the options available that can help you burn fat and still care about your safety, body alignment and your joints movement at the same time. Hip Pilates ticks all these boxes!
It is a dynamic Pilates class which totally excites me! I am very comfortable to say that you will burn fat and get healthier and stronger! I have been trying many fitness classes: Circuit training, TRX, HIIT, boot camps and had been finding myself questioning how safe they are with not enough attention to how the body moves, how everyone’s alignment is or the pace of the class. After all my motivation and attempts I sadly ended up dropping these methods. When I first heard of HIP I knew I was in safe hands with Lisa Bradshaw who is an absolute Pilates Guru and after my training with her here are my notes on this amazing training!
What is HIP Pilates?
Lisa developed a dynamic training method with Pilates principles as a next step for healthy bodies to challenge their strength, balance and mobility. HIP Pilates™ – High Intensity Power Pilates classes focuses on working out multiple muscles at one time and burning fat with increasing your heart rate. The more muscles that are worked the more fat is burnt. It’s simple!
It is a faster paced training however the exercises can be adapted for people at different fitness levels, it includes weight bearing exercises such as squats that encourage bone health and assist your becoming stronger. It involves hand weights for stoking your metabolism and strengthening your upper body. So it really gives you a fun and great workout.
On top of this, it stays true to the principles of Pilates such as alignment: A great focus on keeping your body in the correct alignment when you move, this is one of the key points when exercising and it is crucial to prevent any injuries. Working out with a Pilates instructor gives you extra comfort and safety on this!
The exercises focus on teaching you naturally how to improve your core muscles. Again you get
continuous flow in movements just like in Pilates: The exercises have a complete flow from one to another and you don’t actually have moments of rest unlikely to HIIT. This keeps your body active and burn more energy.
Post Workout – How?
Well, you are guaranteed to leave the class very happy as your body will be releasing lots of endorphins in this fast paced training! It naturally makes you feel a lot more productive and energetic for the rest of your day... even on the next day. After having two months of break I finally got my energy back to enable me to go running again the next morning. It just makes you realise how amazing your body is! Physically you are likely to feel soreness on your legs and your upper body on the day after exercising but a gentle stretch would help you to recover from muscle soreness. If you are a fan of fast paced training you must try the HIP Pilates! As you won’t need to do anything else! It is different than a traditional Pilates session in that it aims to get you “off the mat”.
I am looking forward to adding some sequences from HIP to my regular classes as I believe these will be great for everyone from every age as it is beneficial for strengthening.
