Don’t let winter destroy your fitness routines! Become a winter warrior!
Winter is the hardest time to keep your fitness routine in shape if you pardon the pun. Spending the afternoon under a cosy blanket, having heart-warming food and drinks in the evening and spending hours on the sofa with Netflix, That’s part of the charm of winter; why not enjoy all these activities as well as keeping up with your fitness routine. Here are just a few ideas that can help you to keep your fitness levels up during winter.
Going for a run on a freezing cold morning when you can’t get out from under your blanket may be difficult or cycling when it is pouring rain does not sound very appealing and no one can blame you for not wanting to do these! However, do not let your fitness routines completely evaporate in winter! There are so many other things you can do this winter!
Just this week I was thinking of alternative ways to carry on with my exercise activities without being unduly affected by the cold and rainy weather. I am sure you have all thought about signing up to a gym where you can benefit from indoor fitness classes and facilities so my list is for who want some alternative and more comfortable ideas to exercise this winter.
1. Workout at home
This works so well in winter as you don't really need anything. I used to exercise in the living room early in the mornings in our flat as it was the only time that was free. There are so many Pilates, cardio, HIIT or for that matter any other kind of workout videos that you can access free on YouTube and follow in your living room for 45 minutes. Maybe not every day but 3 times a week would make a difference, help you beat the lazy winter mood and feel a lot more productive in the day. All you need is motivation! (and maybe a mat, if you have carpet you don’t even need that).
2. Spinning Bike
It is great as you save a lot of time. There are many different styles and foldable types of bikes that don’t take space or look awful in your home. I wasn't convinced how practical it would be due to my limited living space but they fit in a tiny corner of your room. I found some on Amazon to be quite affordable (at under £80 like this one) and they have everything you need. The good thing about this is that you can distract yourself easily while you do your daily exercise; catching up with your favourite tv show or reading your new book for 30 minutes everyday? That doesn’t sound so bad right? You don’t need to be in a gym, you have the comfort of your living room and it doesn’t matter what the weather is outside, you can make your own spinning club with some great music in your lounge and burn some calories from the comfort of your home!
3. Workout at work
No Space or time at home? This isn’t an excuse these days, you spend the most of your time at work and many companies show their appreciation by offering lunch time fitness sessions on their premises. This doesn’t just make everyone healthy and refreshed on a winters day, it also improves communication, friendship and it is something fun to do for 45 minutes once a week! If you are interested in this and were not aware this was even possible contact me for a discussion about how I could bring a fun active Pilates class to your office!
I was working in retail 2 years ago and it is hard to put on weight when you need to visit many stores within a day. It is a fun way to burn calories with walking from shop to shop and carrying bags. Why not instead of online shopping this Christmas and in January sales try to do store shopping in town, help the high street and your fitness levels? You can probably make healthier choices when you see the products and burn more than 230 calories per hour :)
I hope this helps you not to worry so much about treating yourself this Christmas. There is always a way to get fitter until summer and to beat the lazy winter.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and very Happy and Healthy 2017!
I hope everyone has a very special festive season this year and enjoys it with their family and friends! x
